Elon Musk Set to Introduce Chatbot Grok 3, Claimed to be the "Smartest AI on Earth," This Monday

Elon Musk has announced that his artificial intelligence startup, xAI, will release its latest chatbot, Grok 3, on Monday, February 17. Musk billed the new model as the “smartest AI on Earth” in a market that is becoming increasingly competitive.

The flagship AI product will debut with a demonstration at 8:00 pm Pacific Time (0400 GMT), according to a post by Musk on his social media platform, X. He noted that Grok 3 was trained on synthetic data and is designed to improve its reasoning by reflecting on past errors and reviewing data for logical consistency.

“Will be honing product with the team all weekend, so offline until then,” Musk wrote. The billionaire entrepreneur, who also serves as a top advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump on cutting government spending, has been pushing for a stronger foothold in the AI sector.

Musk previously stated that Grok 3 was in its final stages of development and would be released within weeks. xAI is aiming to carve out a niche in an industry dominated by established players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as artificial intelligence continues to integrate into everyday life.

The competition in the AI market has intensified, particularly after Chinese startup DeepSeek launched a low-cost, high-quality chatbot last month, challenging U.S. dominance in AI technology. DeepSeek quickly surpassed ChatGPT in downloads on Apple’s App Store, raising concerns about shifting global leadership in the field.

Despite warning about AI’s potential risks to humanity, Musk has aggressively pursued investment in the sector. In December, xAI announced that it had secured $6 billion in funding from investors, including U.S. venture capitalists, chipmakers Nvidia and AMD, and investment funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This followed an initial $6 billion fundraising round in May, making xAI one of the world’s most valuable startups, though it remains smaller than OpenAI.

Musk founded xAI in July 2023, shortly after signing an open letter urging a pause in the development of advanced AI models. Meanwhile, OpenAI rejected a Musk-led offer to acquire the company for $97.4 billion, according to its board chairman on Friday, February 14.
