Facebook TVs recently claimed that VP Shettima accused President Tinubu of bugging his official residence.

The first part of the writeup reads: “VP Shettima accuses President Tinubu of bugging his N21 billion official residence, prefers his current home.”

‘Bug’ or when a residence is bugged, means that the surveillance of the residence has been compromised. Thus, the claim suggests that the President has directly or indirectly ordered secret monitoring devices installed in the VP’s residence.

The Facebook TV further claimed that VP Shettima said he delayed moving into his new residence due to the move to monitor his activities.

Quoting an unnamed source, the TV further state that the VP’s suspicion stems from the political tension ahead of the 2027 election.

Verification:

Ripples Nigeria reports that the official residence of the VP was estimated to have cost about N15 billion, and it was completed about 9 months ago.

The building, which was commissioned by President Tinubu on June 7, 2024, was handed over to the Presidency by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration.

Last month, February 8, it was reported that the VP’s relocation was delayed because of some issues, mainly security concerns due to the location of the residence.

However, no mainstream media recently reported that VP Shettima accused President Tinubu of bugging the residence.

Conclusion

The claim that VP Shettima accused President Tinubu of bugging the former’s newly commissioned residence is misleading.
