An entire generation has been wiped out from the face of the earth after an auto crash claimed the lives of a family of six in Cross River State.
CONVERSEER learned that the family of 6 left Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River after celebrating the Leboku Festival en route to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory before being involved in a road accident.
According to SC Istifanus Ibrahim, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Cross River State, on Monday (Sept. 18), the accident involving a truck and their vehicle also left two other occupants injured.
The vehicle collided face-to-face with an oncoming truck with two occupants.
SC Ibrahim said the incident happened around Otokpuru axis in Bekwarra Local Government Area, adding that the victims were taken to Abuochichie Cottage Hospital, the local government headquarters all in Cross River State.
He said: “The information we gathered from security agents and a good Samaritan who were involved in the rescue operation because our post is a bit far from the scene of the accident, was that the probable cause of the fatal accident was overspeeding.
“The accident claimed the life of 6 persons including one adult Male (father) identified as Edet Eteng, one adult female (mother), and four children (three females and one male) – all from one family.
“Road users, especially drivers must as a matter of responsibility minimise speed during this rainy season, because a lot can happen that may be beyond their control.”
CONVERSEER reports that tragic accidents have claimed several lives in the past three months in the state, including Calabar, the state capital.
