FCT Police Save Five-Year-Old Girl, Detain Alleged Kidnapper

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued a five-year-old girl, Miracle Yakubu, and arrested a 46-year-old man, Nawaisi Abdullahi, for her alleged abduction.

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at about 10:00 AM, operatives from the Utako Police Division, working alongside local vigilantes, responded to a distress call regarding a man who had been seen walking with a child along the Mobil Filling Station by Jabi Expressway.

This was detailed in a press release shared on Monday, Jan. 20, from the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, titled, “FCT Police Command Rescue Five-Year-Old Miracle Yakubu From Suspected Abductor, Arrest Suspect.”

A preliminary investigation revealed that Abdullahi had taken the child without the consent of her mother, a local akara seller in Utako Village.

Upon interception, police operatives rescued the child and reunited her with her family.

“The safety and security of all residents remain our top priority,” said CP Olatunji Disu, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.

“We commend the swift response of our officers and the collaboration of local vigilantes in ensuring the safe return of the child.”

The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances of the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command reiterated the Command’s dedication to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

“The FCT Police Command is committed to the safety of all residents. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly,” she said.

The Command also encouraged residents to utilise its emergency lines for immediate assistance in suspicious situations: 08032003913; 08061581938; 07057337653; and 08028940883.

According to the Command, this successful rescue highlights the importance of community vigilance and underscores the FCT Police’s commitment to protecting its residents.
