Ferrari launches Amalfi supercar with 631 brake horsepower, 0-100 acceleration in 3.3 seconds, starting at 240,000 euros

Ferrari has launched the new 631 brake horsepower (bhp, the horsepower value on the engine flywheel ) Amalfi. As the company’s new entry-level model, compared to Roma, it has greater power, a new exterior design and renewed aerodynamics.

The Ferrari Amalfi’s basic architecture is the same as the Roma’s, but as a brand new model, almost all panels have been replaced and the front-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine has been extensively modified.

In terms of power, after this transformation, Amalfi reaches 631 brake horsepower, an increase of 19 brake horsepower over Roma, and the torque remains at 561 pound-feet. The power is transmitted through the same eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The acceleration time from 0 to 62mph (zero to 100 acceleration) is 3.3 seconds, which is 0.1 second faster than Roma.

While these increases in power and speed may seem modest, Ferrari has focused on making the engine more responsive in the higher gears, particularly third and fourth, most noticeably in the 0-124mph acceleration time, which now takes just 9.0 seconds – a shave of 0.6 seconds off the 0-124mph time.

The Amalfi also features a brake-by-wire system, which replaces the mechanical brake components with a computer-controlled unit that converts pedal pressure into a corresponding amount of braking force.

Fulgenzi said this makes the car easier to drive in “all weather conditions” and is a “huge improvement” over the Roma. “With this system, the driver gets the same braking feel and distance in all conditions, making driving more predictable.”

Although the mechanical changes are significant, the design updates are more evolutionary than revolutionary. Chief designer Flavio Manzoni said the goal was to retain the Roma’s design style “but give it a modern feel”, with a focus on simplicity and purity.

The new Ferrari Amalfi will start delivery in the left-hand drive market at the beginning of next year, followed by the right-hand drive model. The starting price in Italy is 240,000 euros.
