ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 95 senior officers across four key paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

This was disclosed on Friday, 11th July 2025, by the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Major General A.M. Jibril (Rtd.), on behalf of the Board Chairman and Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a press briefing held at the CDCFIB Secretariat in Abuja.

The promoted officers are from the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The promotions cover various senior ranks, from Controllers, Comptrollers, and Commandants to Assistant Controllers-General, Assistant Comptrollers-General, and Assistant Commandants-General.

According to the breakdown provided by Maj. Gen. Jibril, the promotions are as follows:

  • Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS):
    • 4 officers elevated from Assistant Controller-General (ACG) to Deputy Controller-General (DCG)
    • 31 officers promoted from Controller of Corrections (CC) to ACG

Maj. Gen. Jibril also disclosed that during its 03-25 meeting, the Board approved the constitution of a harmonisation committee tasked with developing a unified Scheme of Service for the four paramilitary agencies. This initiative aims to align the operational structure and progression framework across the services for improved efficiency and coordination.

In addition, the Board reviewed 224 disciplinary cases involving personnel from the four agencies. The cases, which include dismissals, compulsory retirements, appeal rejections, exonerations, warning letters, and loss of seniority, were distributed as follows:

  • NCoS – 143 cases
  • NIS – 31 cases
  • FFS – 4 cases
  • NSCDC – 46 cases

The Board emphasised that each case was thoroughly assessed in accordance with the public service rules and the extant disciplinary procedures of the agencies involved.

On recruitment, the CDCFIB announced that online applications for enlistment into the four paramilitary services and the Board Secretariat will commence on Monday, 14th July 2025. The public was cautioned to avoid fraudulent intermediaries, with assurances that the recruitment process will be “seamless and transparent.”

Furthermore, the Board approved the timeline for the 2025 promotion exercise, which will begin in August and conclude in November 2025. The decision reflects the Federal Government’s continued drive towards a results-oriented and merit-based public service system.

While congratulating the newly promoted officers, Maj. Gen. Jibril charged them to live up to the responsibilities that come with their new ranks.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. We urge all officers to bring their wealth of experience and knowledge to bear in their new roles and assignments,” he stated.

He reaffirmed the Board’s unwavering commitment to merit, discipline, and transparency, in alignment with ongoing national reforms within the security and civil services.

The promotion and reform initiatives by the CDCFIB signify a concerted effort by the Federal Government to strengthen the paramilitary architecture for enhanced national security and service delivery.
