Footballer Arthur Melo robbed in broad daylight’ in Barcelona

Former Liverpool midfielder, Arthur Melo has been robbed in broad daylight in Barcelona.

The Brazilian midfielder is now playing for Girona in La Liga, on loan from Juventus following a failed temporary stay with Liverpool in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp two seasons ago.

Marca reports that Arthur Melo was enjoying some time off in Barcelona shopping, and was paying for his parking ticket when the incident occurred.

The event is said to have happened at 4pm on Passeig de Gracia, and it is reported that an individual hopped off a motorbike and stole a luxury watch before bolting at speed.

It is reported that there were two people involved in the robbery, with Melo unharmed and reporting the incident to the police.

Marca say that Melo was in training on Friday as normal and is likely to feature for Girona in their clash with Alaves on Saturday.

It is not the first time the 28-year-old has allegedly been robbed, with it reported that two burglars broke into his home and threatened his brother with a weapon in 2019.

The break-in happened during Barcelona’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final first-leg victory against Liverpool six years ago. The two people were understood to have taken valuables including jewellery and a Rolex watch.

Local reports said Melo’s unnamed brother returned home around 11pm after the match to find two masked men in the house, who put a weapon similar to a screwdriver to his throat and forced him to open a safe with valuables inside. There were no reports of any injuries.
