Francis Uzoho: Super Eagles Goalkeeper’s Rare Start for Omonia Nicosia Takes a Turn for the Worst

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho rare start for Omonia Nicosia ended abruptly after just 15 minutes due to injury in their 7-0 win over Spartakos Kitiou in the Cyprus Cup on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper, typically a backup to veteran Fabiano Ribeiro de Freitas, received a start from coach Yannis Anastasiou for the second-round clash.

However, Uzoho went down after a collision with an opponent and had to be replaced by Cyprus international Charalampos Kyriakidis.

Despite the injury setback, Omonia maintained control of the game. Goals from Loizos Loizou, Ewandro Felipe, Angelos Neophytou (brace), and Roman Bezus sealed the dominant win and secured Omonia’s place in the Cyprus Cup quarterfinals.

Before Wednesday’s match, Uzoho had made only two appearances this season: a 3-1 win over Rapid Vienna and a 2-0 loss to Anorthosis in the Cyprus League.

The injury marks another disappointment for Uzoho, who hoped to secure more playing time.

Omonia has yet to provide an update on the injury’s severity, but Uzoho remains optimistic for a quick recovery.
