Ghana’s Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine of abusing his office by ordering searches, arrests, and investigations into former government officials.
The group claims these actions, carried out by national security operatives, undermine the constitutional mandate of the Attorney General’s office.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, March 24, Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, called for an immediate halt to such operations. He cited social media images showing ransacked premises and alleged destruction during the searches.
Ahmed Shaib raised concerns about the legality of the raids, questioning why a court-issued warrant, if it existed, was not presented to Dr. Ernest Addison, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, before or during the operation.
The Minority is demanding that the government issue an apology to Dr. Addison for the search at his residence, insisting that the process lacked due legal procedure.
