CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – A modern toilet facility is set to be constructed at Government Primary School, Ediba Road, Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, following a pledge made by Hon. Stanley Nsemo, Member Representing Calabar Municipality in the Cross River State House of Assembly.
The pledge was made during the 75th Anniversary celebration of the school held on Friday, 11th July 2025. Hon. Nsemo, who represented the Chairman of the occasion, Elder (Dr) Esu Effiong Esu, Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), commended the school’s legacy and reiterated his commitment to improving learning infrastructure within his constituency.
The event, hosted by the Senior Alumni of the school and the Mayor of Calabar, Apostle (Rt. Hon.) James Anam, drew dignitaries from across and outside the state. Among the attendees was Hon. Ogiji-Idaga Martins Achadu (PhD), a former pupil of the school, currently representing Yala II State Constituency and serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Education in the Cross River State House of Assembly.
The celebration also featured Her Excellency, Bishop (Dr) Mrs Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, wife of the Cross River State Governor, who graced the event as Distinguished Guest and Mother of the Day. She further demonstrated her support for education by donating the sum of ₦1 million towards the school’s Education Endowment Fund.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and President of the Alumni Association, Elder Comrade Iso Bassey Edim, who also serves as Secretary of Calabar Municipal Council, expressed appreciation to the Head Teacher, Mrs Eunice Uno Ethothi, for her diligence and commitment in ensuring the success of the celebration.
The event featured a march past by old and current pupils, cultural dance displays, and the ceremonial cutting of the anniversary cake. The State Commissioner for Education, Senator Prof. Stephen Odey, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the school’s longstanding contribution to basic education in Cross River State.
Goodwill messages were also received from the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality and Ndidem of the Quas, His Royal Majesty Dr Eta Bassey Eteta III, and the Vice Chairman of Calabar Municipality, Rt. Hon. Pastor Okon Nyong, both of whom praised the school’s historic role in shaping leaders and fostering community development since its establishment on 11th July 1950.
Government Primary School, Ediba Road, has, over the years, remained a beacon of foundational education in Calabar Municipality, producing prominent personalities across various sectors.
