Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended three commissioners for absenteeism during a State Executive Council meeting.
The affected commissioners are Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development).
Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the executive council meeting. He stated that the suspension, which will last for one month, was due to the commissioners’ failure to seek permission before being absent from the crucial government meeting.
Governor Nwifuru reportedly issued a stern warning against absenteeism and a lackadaisical attitude to work by public servants, emphasizing the importance of discipline and commitment within his administration.
The governor also directed that the suspended commissioners be stripped of all privileges attached to their offices for the duration of the suspension.
Additionally, Nwifuru instructed contractors handling government projects in the state to accelerate their work in accordance with contractual agreements. He warned that the government would not hesitate to use all legal means to ensure compliance with project timelines and standards.
