Governor Otu offers free Easter transport across Cross River

CALABAR – In a move aimed at easing the financial burden of travel during the Easter season, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has approved free transportation for residents across the state.

Announced on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties, Barr Akiba Ekpenyong, the initiative covers both land and riverine routes, with buses and boats deployed to facilitate movement during the festive period.

According to the statement, the free transport service is part of the Governor’s commitment to ensuring that all Cross Riverians, irrespective of location or status, are able to reunite with their families and celebrate Easter in comfort and peace.

“In the true spirit of Easter and as a reflection of his compassionate leadership, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu, has graciously approved free bus and boat transport services across Cross River State,” the statement read.

The buses will operate across the southern, central, and northern senatorial districts, providing accessible travel for residents moving to and from major towns and communities, including Calabar.

In addition, special arrangements have been made for riverine communities, with boats plying routes such as Calabar to Odukpani, among others.

“This initiative is more than a policy – it is a bold statement of love, reminding us all that we are stronger together and that under this administration, the people come first,” Ekpenyong noted.

The state government encouraged residents to make use of the opportunity as they travel for church services, family visits, and other Easter-related activities.

It further called on citizens to reflect on the season’s values of love, sacrifice, and unity, and to keep the Governor in prayers.
