Obudu, Cross River – The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, Coco-Bassey Esu, recently visited the College of Nursing Sciences in Obudu to assess its operations and discuss strategies for advancing nursing education. This aligns with Governor Sen. Bassey Otu’s “People First” agenda.
During the visit, Mr Esu commended the government’s commitment to improving the college’s infrastructure, which has sparked optimism for its growth and the enhancement of nursing programmes. He emphasised the significance of expanding these programmes to boost the healthcare sector in the state and beyond.
The Provost, Dr (Mrs) Victoria Undeshi, described the visit as “divine and timely,” praising the governor’s steadfast support for education and the nursing profession. She highlighted key achievements under his leadership, including:
- Securing land for additional classrooms and offices.
- Expanding and upgrading infrastructure, including ICT centres, libraries, and staff offices.
- Funding for accreditation processes by relevant bodies.
- Hiring and retaining qualified educators to meet accreditation standards.
Guided by the Provost and senior officials, Mr Esu toured ongoing and completed projects, noting their potential to transform nursing education in the state.
The visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering growth in healthcare education and the nursing profession.
