Govt Conducts Mass Wedding for 300 Couples in Kebbi

Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria – In a bid to foster social stability and economic empowerment, the Kebbi State Government has successfully conducted its second mass wedding under Governor Nasir Idris’s administration. The grand ceremony, held at the Emir’s Palace in Birnin Kebbi, united 300 couples drawn from the state’s 21 local government areas.

Coordinated by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and the Emir of Gwandu, the event featured a robust support package designed to help newlyweds embark on a stable future. Each couple received a dowry of ₦180,000, underscoring the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden of marriage.

The solemnisation was performed by the Walin Gwandu, Malam Muktar, who was assisted by several prominent Islamic clerics. Prior to the ceremony, all couples underwent medical screenings, and grooms were assessed to confirm they possessed both a trade and adequate shelter to support their wives—measures aimed at ensuring the long-term success of these unions.

Committee chairman Suleman Argungu, who spearheaded the organisation of the wedding, highlighted the initiative’s past successes. “Our previous mass wedding witnessed only three separations and over 100 births, proving that such interventions contribute positively to family stability,” Argungu noted.

Religious leaders present at the event lauded the mass wedding initiative for its role in promoting morality and curbing social vices. Their endorsements reflected a shared belief that strengthening family units can have far-reaching benefits for society as a whole.

Governor Nasir Idris, speaking at the event, reaffirmed his government’s dedication to programs that benefit the masses. “This mass wedding is more than just a ceremony—it is a vital component of our governance strategy that supports our citizens’ aspirations and contributes to community development,” he declared.

Among those celebrating was Abubakar Aliyu, a visually impaired beneficiary who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the government’s support. “My disability made it difficult to afford a wedding on my own. This initiative has given me hope and a fresh start,” he said.

In addition to the dowries, the couples were also provided with an empowerment package that included farming equipment such as water pumping machines and cash donations to kick-start their businesses. This holistic approach not only solidifies marital bonds but also enhances the economic prospects of newly formed families, reinforcing the state government’s broader commitment to sustainable development.

As Kebbi State continues to implement innovative policies aimed at uplifting its citizens, the success of this mass wedding stands as a testament to the potential of targeted social interventions in transforming lives and strengthening community ties.
