Calabar, Cross River State – The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has attributed the power outage in Calabar, Cross River State capital, to a heavy wind storm.

Converseer reports that there was torrential rain with heavy wind and thunderstorms on Saturday night and Sunday morning that wreaked havoc in Calabar, destroying properties worth millions of Naira.

In a public announcement on Sunday, the PHED said the torrential rain also affected electric poles, leading to the power blackout faced by the city.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers in Calabar that the outage currently experienced is as a result of a heavy wind storm that damaged many poles in our network.

“Affected feeders include Bao Yao Iron and Steel, OLAM, Niger Mill (Flour Mill), EPZ complex, MCC, Federal Housing, 8 Miles, UNICAL, Amika Utuk, Transcorp, EPZ 1, Essien Town, Leopard and Diamond.

“We assure our customers that this situation is being given the very urgent attention that it deserves, as our technical team is working assiduously to ensure that supply is restored as soon as possible

“We appeal for patience and understanding during this time,” the Public Announcement signed by the Management read.
