Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, NCFRMI distribute relief items in Nasarawa

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (FMHAPA) in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) have flagged off the distribution of relief materials to persons of concern in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The items comprising of rice, dates and clothing were distributed to over 1,000 victims of the recent rain storm which claimed lives and properties across several Local Government Areas of the state. The beneficiaries include men, women, youths, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

The Hon. Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed during the flag-off ceremony said the Federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is concerned over the plight of the victims and have brought relief materials to cushion their suffering in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for the kind gesture and continued support for the people of the State in times of need.

He said the construction of skill acquisition centres for IDPs as mentioned in the speech of the Hon Federal Commissioner will give the IDPs a sense of belonging and source of livelihood.

“The State takes skill acquisition very seriously and will continue to support persons of concern” the Governor added.

Beneficiaries of the Federal Government relief items were full of appreciation to the President for coming to their aid. They also commended the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons for coming all the way from Abuja to distribute the materials.

A beneficiary Mr Isa Usman from Keana Local Government Area of the State appreciated President Tinubu for his kind gesture saying it is a show of love and concern for victims of natural disasters by the Federal Government.

Another beneficiary, Madam Halima Sunday who was full of joy and appreciation to the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation said the rainstorm destroyed everything they had but the foodstuffs and clothes given to her and her family would be a huge relief.

Earlier, the Federal government team paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor in his Office.

Dignitaries at the event include the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr Abdullahi A Sule, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Princess Abiodun Esset, Hon. Federal Commissioner NCFRMI, Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, Directors of FMHAPA and NCFRMI, Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners, Special Advisers to the Governor, EMNAMU FOUNDATION owned by a renowned philanthropist, Dr Emmanuel Musa, among others.
