TEHRAN (CONVERSEER) – Israel has launched high-intensity strikes against targets in Tehran, accusing Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump between the Islamic Republic and Israel.
Despite Trump’s recent efforts to de-escalate the conflict through a negotiated truce, the Israeli government said on Tuesday that Iran breached the agreement by firing missiles toward Israeli territory. In response, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said he had ordered the military to carry out strikes on regime targets in the heart of Tehran.
“In light of Iran’s blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, and the launching of missiles toward Israel, I have instructed the IDF, in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue intense operations,” Katz said in a statement. He described the ongoing response as part of a broader campaign to dismantle Iranian terror infrastructure.
Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir, echoed Katz’s remarks, saying the IDF “will strike with force” and that the military would not tolerate any breach of the ceasefire. “We will respond with force,” he said following a situational assessment.
Air raid sirens reportedly sounded across Israel on Tuesday, suggesting active missile threats. A senior Israeli official, speaking to Fox News, claimed that two missiles had already been launched from Iran, with more expected imminently. “Unfortunately, the Iranians have decided to continue to fire toward Israel,” the official said.
In a swift response, the Israeli Air Force reportedly destroyed a radar installation near Tehran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed the operation and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to retaliate against any hostile action from Iran.
Iran, however, has denied any wrongdoing. According to Iranian state media, the country’s military dismissed Israel’s claims and maintained that it had not violated the ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, in Washington, US defence officials are closely monitoring the situation. During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on the 2026 Navy Budget, Acting Chief of Naval Operations Adm. James Kilby revealed that the US Navy is depleting its missile stockpile rapidly while supporting Israel’s defence.
“We are using them at an alarming rate,” Kilby said when asked about the supply of SM-3 missiles. “As you know, those are missiles procured by the Missile Defence Agency and then delivered to the Navy for our use. And we are using them quite effectively in the defence of Israel.”
The renewed hostilities mark a sharp escalation in regional tensions and cast doubt over the durability of the ceasefire efforts led by the United States. As of now, the situation remains fluid, with further military action anticipated.
