The Kano State Hisbah Board has taken a couple into custody after they allegedly held their wedding ceremony at Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road, Kano, without parental consent.
Deputy Commander General of Operations, Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, explaining that Hisbah personnel raided the venue on Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off.
“It’s very unfortunate to tell you that the solemnisation of the purported marriage was conducted in the restaurant by friends of the man without the consent of the parents of the couple,” Abubakar stated.
Emphasizing the board’s commitment to upholding Shari’a law, he warned that authorities would not tolerate actions that undermine religious and cultural norms in the state.

Following the raid, Hisbah launched an investigation to track down attendees who participated in the unauthorized wedding.
“We arrested the couple. We are trailing friends of the groom who fled the restaurant after our personnel stormed the place,” he added.
Abubakar reiterated that the couple had disregarded key marriage conditions, making the union invalid under Shari’a law.
