L.A socialite Big U named a fugitive as US DOJ busts Rollin’ 60s Crips for murd3r

Eugene “Big U” Henley, the former manager of rapper Nipsey Hussle and a founding member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips street gang, is facing a federal RICO complaint that includes charges of murder, human trafficking, and extortion. Henley, also known as the “godfather” of rap, was implicated in a series of criminal activities, including allegedly directing the murder of an aspiring rapper in Las Vegas in January 2021.

Henley, described by federal authorities as the leader of a “mafia-like organization,” is accused of driving to North Las Vegas with co-defendant Sylvester “Vey” Robinson, where they fatally shot an unnamed rapper in the head after the rapper allegedly recorded a diss track aimed at Henley. The pair allegedly dragged the rapper’s body off Interstate 15 into the desert and left it in a ditch. Henley and Robinson reportedly returned to Los Angeles, where they threatened witnesses and destroyed surveillance footage from the studio.

The complaint outlines a sprawling criminal enterprise where Henley allegedly used intimidation to extort local businesses, including millions of dollars embezzled from the office of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, under the guise of anti-gang community programs. Henley is also accused of fraudulently obtaining a COVID-19 relief loan for his record label and misappropriating funds intended for community services.

In a press conference, U.S. Attorney Joseph McNally condemned Henley and his operation, calling them violent criminals masquerading as anti-gang activists and music entrepreneurs. The complaint also claims Henley extorted professional athletes and musicians, requiring them to “check in” for “protection” when visiting Los Angeles, using his reputation as a leader within the Rollin’ 60s to intimidate them.

Henley, who previously served 13 years in prison for attempting to rob an undercover deputy in 1991, is now a fugitive. Federal authorities have arrested several individuals in connection with Henley’s alleged crimes, including part-time rappers Bricc Baby and Luce Cannon, who were frequently featured on the ‘No Jumper’ podcast. The charges against Henley and his associates include robbery, human trafficking, bank fraud, and violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

Henley’s involvement in the criminal underworld reportedly stretched to fraudulently securing funding from L.A. Mayor’s office grants meant for gang reduction and youth development programs. He also allegedly embezzled large sums of money from celebrity donations intended for his nonprofit, Developing Options, which provides gang intervention and youth programs.

The FBI investigation revealed a pattern of robberies and extortion carried out by Henley’s criminal enterprise, including the robbery of an unlicensed marijuana dispensary in Los Angeles. Henley is accused of extorting up to $25,000 per month from the dispensary before orchestrating a violent robbery when the payments ceased. In another incident, Henley allegedly extorted $30,000 from a victim during his birthday party in December 2021.

Henley’s nonprofit, Developing Options, which had received millions in city grants, is also under scrutiny for failing to comply with necessary regulations. Henley allegedly used these funds to support his criminal operations. He faces charges that could lead to up to 20 years in prison, with a potential life sentence if convicted of murder.

Henley’s notoriety within the rap world as a “godfather” figure is underscored by his past involvement with artists like Kurupt and Nipsey Hussle, the latter of whom he mentored. Despite his criminal activities, Henley was often seen as a reformed gang member and community activist, though authorities have now exposed his violent and fraudulent dealings. The investigation continues as more details emerge about his extensive network of crime and influence in the Los Angeles area.
