Lagos State Government Closes School Following Toddler’s Death, Launches Investigation

The Lagos State Government has shut down a school where a two-year-old d!ed following a swimming pool incident.

LIB had earlier reported that Rapheala Ogbodo, mother of the deceased, had on January 15, gone on social media to demand answers over her baby who was said to have drowned in the school’s swimming pool.

She explained that her daughter, a student of Smiley Kids Montessori, in Sangotedo,  Lagos State, went to school healthy but did not return alive.  She added that she was told her daughter drowned.  However, she alleges that she has discovered the child was electrocuted but they put the body in the pool to make it look like drowning. “While the school is presently under lock pending further investigation, the State Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and expresses its commitment to preventing future occurrences,” a statement from the agency read.

The Director-General of the Safety Commission Lanre Mojola said, “further information would be made available upon completion of investigations into the accident.”

Mojola maintained that “school owners and caregivers must comply with safety regulations to prevent accidents in the state.”
