The Lagos state Police Command, under the leadership of CP Olohundare Jimoh, has kickstarted the maiden National Police Week in the state. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had declared the first week of April every year as Police Week and April 7 as National Police Day. This day is set aside to honor the Nigeria Police Force and recognize their contributions in the internal security of our dear Nation, Nigeria, and maintenance of law and order throughout the country.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, says this year’s theme, Inclusive Policing: A Panacea to Improved Security and Economic Growth in Lagos State, highlights the importance of collaborative efforts among security stakeholders and synergy between sister security services to ensure the safety of lives and property in Lagos State. The National Police Week is a pivotal moment for the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen ties with the communities they serve. This week-long celebration honors the dedication and commitment of our officers, while also fostering constructive dialogue with citizens and showcasing the transformative work of the Nigeria Police Force.
Hundeyin mentioned that in compliance with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Lagos State Police Command kickstarted the activities for the celebration today April 3 at the Computer Village, Ikeja where free medical check-ups, wellness workshops, and mental health awareness programs were offered to Nigerians. The officers also carried out a Clean Up Exercise in some major parks, bus-stops and markets across the Fourteen(14) Area Commands in the State.
On April 4, the officers will conduct a Community Outreach Program (Stakeholders Engagement) where they will be hosting a town hall meeting and interactive session at the Police Officers Mess, Ikeja, at 0900 hours with members of the public to address safety concerns and community needs.
On April 5, a Walkathon will be done. Hundeyin said the takeoff point will be from the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, at 6 a.m., through major and strategic locations in the metropolis. This is to promote camaraderie, celebrate diversity, and enhance confidence building between the Police and the people we serve.
Hundeyin added that the Lagos State Police Command invites and implores the residents of Lagos State and all security stakeholders to participate in the planned week-long activities and passionately appeals for their continuous collaboration as the Command moves toward guaranteeing a safer and more secure Lagos State for everyone.
