NEW JERSEY (CONVERSEER) – Chelsea head coach, Enzo Maresca, has provided updates on the availability of Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro ahead of Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final clash against Paris Saint-Germain at the MetLife Stadium.
Addressing the media on Friday, Maresca confirmed that both players are in contention for starting roles, while praising Joao Pedro’s contributions in the semi-final victory over Fluminense, where the Brazilian striker scored both goals in a 2-0 win.
“Joao is a very good player. The reason why we bought him is because we think he’s going to help us, especially against teams that defend deep or in low blocks,” Maresca said.
“He is very good in small spaces and has great quality. We have 48 hours before the final and we are lucky to be able to pick from different options. We will see who is going to play.”
The Italian tactician did not confirm whether Caicedo would start but hinted at the flexibility within his squad, suggesting selection decisions would be finalised closer to kick-off.
Reflecting on the team’s performance and preparations, Maresca expressed confidence in Chelsea’s mindset and readiness for Sunday’s showpiece.
“At this moment, the mood inside the changing room is fantastic—top. The reason why is because they value what they have done during this competition and during the season,” he said.
“When you start with 32 teams and you are lucky to be here at the end with just two teams, they are proud and happy. I have the feeling we are ready to play this final on Sunday.”
Chelsea, aiming to lift the Club World Cup for the second time in their history, will face a formidable PSG side as the two clubs battle for global supremacy.
