Media shake-up, First Amendment, everyone’s a propagandist

Media shake-up, First Amendment, everyone’s a propagandist

On Sunday, March 23 at 10am ET, Chairman Omali Yeshitela, who just won a free speech victory over bogus fed charges, will go live on YouTube with WPFW host Marsha Adabayo to discuss:

  • Death of legacy media; rise of independent voices.

  • Free speech for whom?

  • Role of the “war of ideas” to win hearts and minds in the contest for national self-determination.

  • Propaganda? Doesn’t all media represent a chosen world view?

  • Trump’s moves against Politico, A.P., NPR and other media entities.

Chairman Omali leads the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) and is one of the Uhuru 3 who were found not guilty of being unregistered Russian agents but wrongly convicted of conspiring to be unregistered Russian agents in federal court last fall.

Everything alleged in the case was protected speech – publishing opinions, broadcasting, advocating for peace and Black reparations, and speaking at conferences.

The APSP’s Burning Spear newspaper is the longest running African liberation journal in continuous publication since the Black Power period of the 1960s and is archived in the digital collection of the University of Florida. The associated Uhuru Movement operates a noncommercial radio station in Florida, Black Power 96.3 FM, that is currently pressing a lawsuit against Pinellas County for revoking a federal grant in violation of First Amendment protections.

Efforts to silence these media voices over the years have included firebombings, violent FBI raids, arsons, assassination attempts, economic sanctions and the recent unsuccessful federal case where the Uhuru 3 avoided 15-year prison terms by mobilizing public support.

The “Media Shake-up” program can be viewed on the Burning Spear TV YouTube channel beginning at 10am ET. Chairman Omali will respond to questions and comments.
