AKURE (CONVERSEER) – Suspected thugs allegedly hired by the mother of a student at Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Ondo State, have reportedly beaten up the Vice Principal of the school, Mr Rotifa, for preventing exam malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to a preliminary investigation by the Ondo State Ministry of Education, the attack followed Mr Rotifa’s seizure of an Android phone from an SS3 student who was caught with the device during the examination — a violation of school rules and WAEC guidelines.
The report, conducted by the Director of Schools at the Ministry, disclosed that the incident began on Sunday, 26th May 2025, when the phone was confiscated. The student’s mother allegedly stormed the school days later to confront the management, insisting on the return of the phone. The situation escalated to the point that the school proprietor ordered the device be handed back to her.
“The brother of the student, an old student of the school, later came to the school to harass the Vice Principal and threatened to deal with him,” the report stated.
Following reports that some youths were seen loitering around the school premises after closing hours, the school proprietor reportedly directed Mr Rotifa to report the matter to the police.

“Mr Rotifa visited the police station and two officers accompanied him in a van to search for the boys. They could not find them, but on their way back, the boys waylaid the police van, forcefully pulled Mr Rotifa out, and physically assaulted him,” the report added.
The Vice Principal was rushed to the hospital for treatment and has since been discharged, although he reportedly refrained from returning home due to fears for his safety.
As of press time, further investigations were ongoing to apprehend the culprits, while the Ministry of Education assured that security arrangements were being made to safeguard students and staff during the remaining period of the examination.
