Women across Nigeria are calling for President Bola Tinubu to forgive Dr Betta Edu, suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The women under the umbrella, Concerned Grassroot Women, made this known during a World Conference held on Saturday (20 Jan. 2024), in Abuja.
At the World Conference tagged “Bring Back Betta Edu”, the women also pleaded with the president to give her a second chance.
The women who were chanting, “On your mandate, we shall stand”, were carrying placards with various inscriptions.
Some of them read: “Mr President please forgive Dr Betta Edu”, The refugees are yelling, please bring back Dr Betta Edu”, “#Give Betta Edu a second chance”, and “The market women need Dr Betta Ed back.”
Others are, “Tinubu bring back our Betta”, “#Betta Edu deserves a second chance”, “Betta quick response to IDPs”, “Giving hope to the poor child”, and several others.
One of the women, identified only as Hon. Itoro from Anambra, while speaking said: “We are saying, God bless you and Dr Betta Edu will surely bounce back.”
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigerian women are crying, please bring back our Betta.”
Some of the women spoke in different languages, including Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

This is not the first time that people are calling for the reinstatement of Edu. Some Nigerians are even organising prayer sessions for the same purpose.
Recall that President Tinubu suspended Dr Edu on 8 January 2024 over allegations bordering on the withdrawal of N585 million from the ministry’s account into a private account.
