UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Amanam Bassey Abraham with a firearm Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect said he was given the gun by his landlord as collateral for a ₦5,000 loan.
According to a statement by DSP Timfon John LLB, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Abraham was arrested “on 18 April 2025, at approximately 4:00 PM. Acting on credible information, operatives of the Command apprehended one Amanam Bassey Abraham, 18-year-old male from Akpautong Village.”
According to the statement, the arrest followed information indicating that the suspect was in possession of an illegal locally made pistol.

“A search conducted on the suspect at the time of his arrest resulted in the recovery of a locally made pistol.
“During the initial interrogation, the suspect claimed that the firearm was given to him as collateral by his landlord, whose name is currently unknown, for a loan of five thousand naira (₦5,000). The suspect further stated his intention was to keep the pistol with his father for safekeeping,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation to apprehend the landlord for questioning.
