Owerri, Nigeria – The name of the Catholic Priest who shot dead a teenager for using Knockout (firecracker) during mass in Imo State has been revealed as Rev. Fr. Joseph Enyinnaya.
Enyinnaya, whose face has also been revealed, is currently serving at St. Columbus Catholic Church in Amaimo, Ikeduru LGA of the State.
Converseer reports that the Priest allegedly shot dead the teenager, whose name is yet to be identified, and injured one other during New Year’s Eve crossover mass held on December 31, 2024.
According to sources, the deceased threw a knockout into the church while Fr. Enyinnaya was officiating a mass.
The Priest was said to have brought out a gun and shot the deceased to death, injuring another who is currently hospitalised.
The Imo State Police Command through the PRO, ASP Henry Okoye, earlier confirmed the incident.
He said, “We are aware of the incident. The priest is in custody, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the facts surrounding the case.”
