Ikeduru, Imo – A Catholic priest in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, is under investigation for a shooting incident that left one person dead and another injured during a mass on December 31, 2024.
The tragic event occurred when the priest allegedly shot a young boy who was using fireworks (knockout) on church premises.
The gunfire reportedly killed one person at the scene, while another sustained injuries and was hospitalised.
ASP Henry Okoye, the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the priest is currently in police custody.
“We are aware of the incident. The priest is in custody, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the facts surrounding the case,” Okoye said.
The police have yet to disclose the names of the priest or the deceased, but authorities assured that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
