Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a shipment of cocaine concealed within 20 religious books bound for Saudi Arabia. The drugs, weighing a total of 500 grams, were discovered on April 15, 2025, during a routine inspection at a courier facility in Lagos.

On the same day, NDLEA operatives at another courier company seized 2.8 kilograms of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, in a package originating from the United States.

The agency also carried out multiple arrests across the country, including that of a 22-year-old suspect in Kano State, Muhammad Mohammed, who was allegedly supplying drugs to criminal groups. Another suspect, Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdulaziz, was apprehended the same day with 30 kilograms of cannabis.

In separate operations in the southern states of Bayelsa and Edo, NDLEA agents arrested five individuals and recovered large quantities of illicit substances.

In Edo State, the agency also destroyed two illegal cannabis farms located in a forest area, eradicating approximately 3,718 kilograms of the plant across 1.5 hectares of land.

Additional suspects were arrested in Lagos, Kebbi, and Kaduna States during coordinated operations, marking significant progress in the agency’s continued crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse across the nation.
