New Super Eagles Coach to Earn ₦84m Monthly

Abuja, Nigeria – Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, will earn a monthly salary of $55,000 (approximately ₦84,984,900), positioning him as one of the highest-paid coaches in Nigerian football history.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed Chelle’s appointment on Tuesday after the endorsement by its Executive Committee, following recommendations from the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

Chelle, the former coach of the Malian national team, is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday with two assistants. His official unveiling will take place on Monday in Abuja. His contract initially focuses on the World Cup qualifiers, which are set to conclude in October.

While Chelle earns a lucrative salary, his two assistants will be paid $5,000 (approximately ₦7.7 million) each per month. Despite the high remuneration, reports indicate that his earnings with the Super Eagles are lower than what he received at Algerian club MC Oran.

The appointment also marks a reorganisation of the Super Eagles’ technical crew. Interim coach Austine Eguavoen, who recently guided the team through AFCON qualifiers, will return to his role as the NFF’s Technical Director.

Chelle’s team will also include Nigerian coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, who will assist in preparations for both the World Cup qualifiers and the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Chelle is set to kick off his tenure with the home-based Eagles as they prepare for the CHAN tournament, slated to begin on 1st February 2025. His appointment brings high expectations as the Super Eagles aim for success in upcoming international competitions.
