Nigeria Enhances Food Security Through Relaunch of Fertiliser Plant

Nigeria is optimistic about ensuring unhindered food access in Yobe State through its fertiliser partnership with Morocco, aimed at strengthening food security in the Northeast region.

A delegation from the African Network Centre, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, is currently in Morocco to explore a partnership with OCP/Jorf Lasfar, the world’s largest fertiliser producer.

Wali reaffirmed Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to revitalising the plant, which is expected to support farmers, create jobs, and boost state revenue through agricultural exports.

OCP Facilities Information Officer, Amina Jamaleddine, highlighted the company’s massive production capacity of 15 million tonnes per year and its extensive global supply network. She confirmed OCP’s willingness to assist Yobe State in restoring its fertiliser plant.

The visit included key officials, such as the Commissioners for Agriculture, Higher Education, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chairman of Damaturu Local Government Council, and other delegates.
