Nigerian Lawyer Shares Family's Reactions to Her Struggles with Conception After Marrying Her Husband

A Nigerian lawyer, Stella, has recalled how some family members reacted when she didn’t get pregnant in the first five years of marriage.

The mother of two, who shared her experience in a Facebook post on Friday, January 31, said she got married as an undergraduate and planned on starting a family at some point. However, fate was not on her side as she failed to conceive.

According to her, during that time some family members blamed her husband for marrying her while others accused her of using birth control pills.

Stella said she eventually got pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that stress contributed to the delay in her conceiving.

“Something happened today that made me remember what I passed through in my first five years in marriage. When I GOT MARRIED to my HUSBAND as a LAW UNDERGRADUATE. I was in 3rd year. PREGNANCY no GREE come,” she wrote.

I wanted to be PREGNANT at some POINT, despite the STRESS of being a LAW UNDERGRADUATE. I heard a lot of UNHEALTHY things from the PEOPLE I called FAMILY.

Some were BLAMING my HUSBAND for MARRYING me. Some FAMILY MEMBERS said that I was TAKEN PILLS to prevent getting PREGNANT. THEY even said that I don’t LOVE my husband. Then, I was using the STRESS of SCHOOL as COVER up.

3 YEARS gone no child. And I was in my FINAL YEAR.

I SAID to myself, now you are GRADUATING what will be your EXCUSE for not GIVING your husband’s children.

Boom! LAW school! I used law school as an EXCUSE. Boom!! COVID came up.

I never knew that STRESS could affect SOME HORMONES RESPONSIBLE for CHILD bearing.

I never KNEW that my problem was STRESS. THANK GOD FOR CØVID-19.

I was pregnant in 2020 August and born a SON for MR JUSTICE. AND NOW, I HAVE TWO SONS.

STRESS is ALSO a DISEASE. ESPECIALLY EMOTIONAL STRESS.

PLEASE if you are an EXPECTANT MOTHER avoid UNNECESSARY STRESS.
