Nigerian Man Ordered Products on Temu for Wife on Her Birthday, What He Got Will Shock You

A Nigerian businessman and farmer, Achilles Ugbani Akuku has cried out following his bad experience with Temu, a Chinese e-commerce company operated by PDD Holdings.

Akuku who is the CEO of Ilong-Ishor Enterprise, urged Nigerians to avoid Temu, owned by Colin Huang, saying everything about it is fraud – from their fraudulent discounts to fake products.

The businessman said he ordered a washing and sewing machine from the online store to surprise his wife on her birthday, only to be left in shock after receiving and unveiling the products.

Taking his ordeal to social media (Facebook) on Wednesday, Akuku said he got toys instead of real products.

He wrote, “Nigerians should avoid Temu. I ordered a washing machine and a sewing machine all from Temu as seen below just to surprise my wife on her birthday, it really turned out to be the saddest surprise ever.

“Na toys dis ppl [sic] ship from HongKong for me on top my money oo [sic].

“Pictures below show what I ordered versus what I got!”

Akuku who is also the Local Government Coordinator (Ogoja) of De-Caucus, one of the biggest socio-political groups in Nigeria, called on the Nigerian Senate, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Immigration Service, to look into the complaints raised by Nigerians regarding Temu.

In a different post, Akuku wrote: “The fortunate and unfortunate thing is that I have ended up educating so many Nigerians about the products they should order from Temu. I have paid the price for all.”

Converseer reports that since Temu’s launch in July 2022, Nigerians have taken to social media to disclose their displeasure regarding the quality of products it sells to customers irrespective of its deceptive discount rates.

According to Temu, it offers heavily discounted consumer goods, however, it has also drawn concerns over data privacy, forced labour, intellectual property, and the quality of its marketplace products.

The company has been embroiled in legal disputes with Shein, a direct competitor, according to Wikipedia.
