Nigerian Navy Commences Recruitment for Batch 37 Basic Training School

The Nigerian Navy has officially announced the commencement of its recruitment exercise for Batch 37 of the Basic Training School, inviting interested and qualified Nigerians to apply for enlistment.

According to a notice from the Navy Secretary, the application period opens on November 15, 2024, and closes on December 20, 2024.

Candidates who successfully complete the application process will sit for a recruitment aptitude test on January 18, 2025, at various designated centres across the nation.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and meet specified physical and legal requirements. Males must be at least 1.69 meters in height, while females must be at least 1.65 meters.

Each candidate must possess a National Identification Number (NIN) and meet the Navy’s health, psychological, and physical fitness standards. Additionally, applicants must have a clean criminal record, with no prior convictions.

Age and education requirements vary by qualification level:

  • O’Level/SSCE holders: Candidates must be between 18 and 22 years old as of December 2024. They must possess at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, achieved in no more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB. Certificates should be from 2018 or more recent.
  • OND/NCE holders: Applicants must be between 18 and 26 years old.
  • Special roles: Candidates applying for positions as chaplain/imam assistants or in driving/mechanics roles must be between 18 and 28 years old and possess five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, in no more than two sittings, with certificates dated no earlier than 2014.

Application Process

Prospective candidates can submit their applications free of charge through the official recruitment portal at joinnigeriannavy.com. The Navy cautioned applicants to avoid multiple submissions, as only a single application per person is permitted. Multiple applications will result in disqualification.

Upon successful submission, applicants must print several forms for documentation, including the acknowledgement form, parent/guardian consent form, guarantor’s certificate form, and local government attestation form. The attestation form must be signed by a military officer of at least the rank of commander or a local government chairman.

Selection and Training

The Navy emphasised that successful candidates will undergo basic military training and, upon completion, will be enlisted as Ordinary Seamen. Candidates are required to demonstrate basic English language proficiency; any applicant unable to communicate effectively in English will face disqualification at any stage of the recruitment process.

This recruitment initiative presents an opportunity for eligible Nigerians to serve their country in a challenging and fulfilling career within the Nigerian Navy. Interested applicants are encouraged to carefully review all requirements and prepare their documents ahead of the application window.
