Nigerian Youths Protest Bad Governance and Repression of Free Speech – West African Voice Network

Nigerian youths are back on the streets of Lagos, protesting against bad governance and the growing repression of free speech in the country.

The demonstration, organized by the Take It Back movement, began early Monday morning with protesters marching along Obafemi Awolowo Way, chanting solidarity songs and calling for accountability.

According to the organizers, the protest aims to demand responsible leadership and resist the increasing clampdown on citizens’ rights to freely express dissent.

The protest is taking place despite warnings from the Nigeria Police Force, which had urged the organizers to call off the planned nationwide demonstration, describing its timing as “ill-conceived and mischievous.”

Among the key issues raised by the organizers are the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act, rising economic hardship, and what they have described as a “state of emergency” in Rivers State.
