Nigerians have reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s leaving the country for his annual leave while calling on him to handover power to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The news of Tinubu going for a two-week annual leave was conveyed by His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.
Onanuga on his X account, stated that the president is spending his leave in the United Kingdom and would be working from there.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for the United Kingdom to begin a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave.
“He will use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
“He will return to the country after the leave expires,” Onanuga’s post read.
Reacting to Onanuga’s statement, some Nigerians have asked the president to handover to his vice while he enjoys his leave.
Some also queried while he chose the United Kingdom over places like Whispering Palms in Badagry, Akodo Resort in Epe or Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River, Nigeria.
Calling on Tinubu to handover to Shettima, Arc. Uche Rochas said, “I expected him to hand over responsibilities to his vice and take a complete, work-free leave. How can he be on leave and still working?”
Godbless said: “No mention that he’s supposed to handover to the Vice President. The President of Nigeria working while on leave? It’s only in Nigeria we see such things! In the midst of hunger and starvation? No right thinking policies. All we hear is “be Patient “. God has left this Country.”
@Iledare said: “Can’t this man go and relax in Lakowe Golf resort or Obudu or Ikogosi or somewhere? Se won se’epe fun gbogbo yin ni? This unitary system dey sweet our politicians no be small.”
Chimaeze Chinweike said: “He is always away. He has worked since his life, as an aged grandfather, he can rest as long as he want.”
Otunba Tunji Ademujimi said: “Óga…which work that man don do that would warrant him to go on annual leave in another man’s country? Why una no gree tell us the truth say Baba batteries don dey low and needs recharge. We would understand than giving us this lamba. Iró póó!”
Hon. Rilwan said: “Fuel is 1200/ltr, Fx is N1690 to a dollar, Local Rice is N108,000, Inflation is above 50% – Despite different crises, the president believes that traveling to the UK rather than Whispering Palms in Badagry is the finest way to enjoy a vacation. We will never get it right.”
Farouq said: “Bayo, Which vacation are you talking about fgs? Nigerians needs to know the state of health of their president. If this man is sick tell us let’s pray for his quick recovery. I don’t know how long you’ll keep hiding this from us.”
Nsikak said: “Abeg stop disturbing us. Let him go to where he wants to go. Nigerians won’t miss him even if he spends 10 years in UK.”
Chukwu Emeka said: “You guys are never ashamed. You ridicule the country at the slightest opportunity. When has any president from Europe, America, or Africa been to Nigeria to spend an annual vacation? Why can’t Tinubu spend his leave in Lagos that he built? There is Akodo Resort in Epe or Obudu.”
