Obudu Chairman Inaugurates 7th Legislative Council

Obudu, Cross River State – The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, on Monday, November 11, 2024, inaugurated the 7th Legislative Council, at the Legislative Chamber in the Council Secretariat.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman congratulated the newly elected Councillors for their victory at the polls and charged them to be good ambassadors of the 7th Legislative House to project Obudu to greater heights.

Undiandeye expressed the hope that they will achieve a greater Obudu by passing legislation that would develop the essential facets of the local government to attain a world-standard local authority.

He further charged them to generate new ideas, innovation and strategies while making laws to address the challenges hindering the growth of the area for a long time now.

Hon. Undiandeye assured that his administration will continue to provide adequate security as well as physical infrastructure that will attract investors to the area and appealed for their support to propel the much anticipated peaceful tourist centre.

He further assured that the administration will work round the clock to put Obudu to its place of pride in order to regain its cultural heritage, rebuild its digital integrity and liberty and ensure sustainable development that will make life meaningful.

Earlier, the Clerk of the legislature, Dr Agabi Ferdinand Odize, maintained that all Councillors must acknowledge the functions of the local government system, Cross River State Law, part IV sections 31 and 32, for guidance and proper enactment of by-laws.

Dr Agabi urged them to note that they were called Honourable because their people bestowed honour on them to represent them at their effective wards and advised them to legislate peacefully to support the executive.

The Honourable Councillors representing the 10 political wards of Obudu Local Government Area are: Ogar Sunday Agbara (Alege/Ubang Ward), Ishibi Lawrence (Angiaba/Begiaka Ward ) and Nehor Eneji (Utugwang/Central Ward).

Others are Eneji Sam Ashibi (Utugwang North Ward), Upan Francis (Begiading Ward ), Akpanke David (Urban I Ward), Abua Michael (Utugwang South Ward), Nkpe Fatima (Ukpe Ward), Undiukeye Eunice (Ipong Ward), and Ashipu Rose (Urban II Ward).

After taking Oaths of Denunciation of Secret Cults, Fraternities and Illegal Societies, Oaths of Allegiance and Oaths of Office, the House was inaugurated and Hon. Eneji Sam Ashibi representing Utugwang North was elected Leader of the 7th Legislative Council while Hon. Akpanke David representing Urban I was elected the Deputy Leader.

In his goodwill message, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Chief Egbenabor charged the Honourable Members to note that their primary responsibility is to make laws for the benefit of their people.

He advised them to work with a mutual understanding and a good relationship with the Chairman of the Council to achieve the desired development of the Area

The Paramount Ruler of Obudu HRM Felix Ukwudare, former Chairman of Cross River State Forestry Commission Chief Tony Undiandeye, and former Honourable Councillors, amongst others, were in attendance.
