The primate of the Orthodox Church in America paid a pastoral visit to the Diocese of Mexico over the weekend.

It has become customary for His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada to visit the diocese following the feast of the Theophany, the OCA reports.

The Metropolitan was accompanied by His Eminence Archbishop Benjamin of San Francisco and several priests who have strong ties to the Church in Mexico. They arrived in Mexico City on January 10.

The next day, Met. Tikhon and the delegation traveled to the local Antiochian diocese’s Monasterio Orthodoxo San Antonio El Grande, which was made available for the OCA Diocesan Assembly.

His Beatitude offered a talk on the conciliar life of the Church, and His Eminence Archbishop Alejo of Mexico offered his own address. Great Vespers was celebrated after the Assembly.

On Sunday, Met. Tikhon celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at Holy Ascension Cathedral in Mexico City together with Abp. Alejo, Abp. Benjamin, and the local Antiochian and Constantinople hierarchs, and numerous clergy. The OCA primate presided at the Great Blessing of Water following the Liturgy.

A festive luncheon followed the services.

Met. Tikhon and the delegation returned to Washington, D.C. on Monday, January 13.
