Ogun Police Detain Two Individuals for Vandalizing Government Cables and Iron Rods

Two suspects have been apprehended by operatives of the Owode Egba Police Division for alleged vandalism and theft of cable wires and iron rods in the Ogunmakin area of Owode Egba, Ogun state.

The suspects, Agbo Jeremiah, age 34 and 29-year-old Sunday Ngbuta, were arrested at about 7pm on Monday, Jan. 20.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the arrest followed a signal from the driver who was conveying the suspects and the stolen items.

Odutola stated that on the information, the police officers on duty flagged down the vehicle to search it, leading to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen items.

She mentioned that earlier that day, operatives from Safer Highway had reported that while they were close to Macpherson University, they came across two individuals carrying rolls of cable wires and iron rods.

The men’s request for help in transporting the items raised suspicions that the wires might be stolen.

She said: “The divisional police officer of Owode Egba has arrested two suspects for conspiracy and vandalism related to the IBEDC installation wires and iron in the Ogunmakin area.

“Operatives from the Safer Highway reported that on the same day, while at the Macpherson University area, they encountered two men carrying rolls of cable wires and iron rods.

“The men asked for assistance in carrying their load, arousing suspicion that the item maybe stolen items.

“On arriving the overhead bridge at Ogunmakin, the driver signaled the police officers on duty and informed about his suspicions and the police flagged down the vehicle.”

Odutola noted that on questioning, the suspects could not provide satisfying answers as to how they got the items.

She added that they are currently being interrogated and further investigation is ongoing.
