The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has accepted the ruling that nullified the Rivers State congresses held last year.
On Monday, Justice Stephen Jumbo of the Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt nullified the ward and local government congresses held in the state in August 2024.
The congresses were conducted by a faction of the PDP backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in 319 wards and 23 local government areas across the state.
The judge, who issued the order on an interlocutory injunction filed by Edwin Woko and Love Otuonyo, restrained Aaron Chukwuemeka from parading himself as PDP chairman in the state.
He also restrained other state executive committee members from overseeing the party’s affairs.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC said it has accepted the court ruling.
The committee has now recognized the Nname Ewor-led SEC as the party’s legitimate leadership in Rivers State.
The statement read: “Consequently, in line with the judgement of the court delivered on Monday, January 13, 2025, the NWC affirms the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to henceforth pilot the affairs of the PDP Rivers State chapter in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
“The NWC commends the decision of the court, which reaffirms the PDP’s position as a bastion of transparency, due process, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the rule of law and party guidelines in the conduct of congresses and other activities.”
