Police apprehend suspect involved in the fatal burning of a 74-year-old wheelchair-bound woman in Anambra.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the principal suspect, Obinna Anene, in the gruesome m8rder of a 74-year-old woman in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

 

 

The victim, Alice Anene, was burnt to d3ath in her wheelchair on January 27, 2025. 

 

 

Spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, February 4, said the suspect, Obinna Anene, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide SCID Section Awka for a debrief. 

 

“The suspect: Obinna Anene ‘m’ aged 33yrs of Amene Village, Abagana, who was mentioned as the principal suspect in the case of burning and k!lling of a 74-year-old woman, Alice Anene, at Abagana on 27/01/2025, has been arrested,” the statement read.

 

“He is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide SCID Section Awka for a debrief. Further details shall be communicated.”

 

 

Four suspects, Chinenye Ekwenugo, 21, Uzochukwu Okeke,47, Fidel Anayo, 60, and Ikenna Anene, 54, were earlier arrested for their involvement in the criminal act while Obinna, named the principal suspect, escaped.

 

 

The suspects initially denied knowing what happened to the elderly woman but later accepted that they were around after the fire incident. 

 

 

Chinenye confessed that her boyfriend, who is currently at large, and three others set the victim ablaze and got a casket to bury her before the intervention of security operatives.
