Police Detain Two for Suspected Illegal Weapons Production

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, for allegedly manufacturing illegal weapons.

This follows a well-coordinated operation that led to the discovery of an illegal weapons manufacturing factory located at Tse Akamabe in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement on Friday, January 17, that the operation resulted in the recovery of nine locally fabricated pistols, one unfinished locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, two gas cylinders, four vice machines, one filing machine, and numerous other weapons manufacturing tools.

In another operation, Adejobi reported that police operatives from the Delta State Command, acting on credible intelligence, raided an apartment in DSC, where they arrested 32-year-old Prosper Akeni, a notorious hitman for the Eiye confraternity. During the raid, police recovered one English revolver pistol, one Beretta pistol, two locally made double barrel guns, two locally made single barrel guns, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single barrel pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition. The suspect confessed that the weapons belonged to his cult group, and he was the custodian of the weapons as the number one man in the group.

The police also reported the arrest of Yunusa Haruna, a 25-year-old male from Bakin Turu Village in Kebbi State, on December 31, 2024. He was arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, with a sharp knife in the chest. Additionally, on January 8, 2025, another suspect, Abubakar Ummar, was arrested in Zuru Village for allegedly stabbing Mohammed Bala to death during an argument.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has commended the operatives for their significant achievements in combating crime and criminality. He urged the police to intensify their efforts to restore peace and security across the country. The IGP also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and share useful information with the police to help foster a community-based policing system.
