CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – The Cross River State Police Command has foiled a kidnap attempt and arrested three suspects in connection with the incident in Calabar, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Irene Ugbo, disclosed this during a telephone conversation on Wednesday with Leadership, confirming the swift response by the command’s surveillance team.
According to Ugbo, the arrested suspects are Henry Efa Otu (24), Lawrence Ita Inyang (46) and Umoh Ekpo (46), all residents of Efut Effioene Street in Calabar.
She said the suspects were apprehended while attempting to abduct Nkereuwem Peter (38), a resident of 35 Eneobong Avenue in Calabar South Local Government Area.
“The kidnappers opened fire upon sighting the police, but they were overpowered by our surveillance team. Two locally made pistols and one live cartridge were recovered as exhibits,” Ugbo explained.
The PPRO also confirmed that a manhunt had been launched to track down other fleeing accomplices connected with the attempted abduction.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, reiterated his commitment to reducing crime in Cross River State to the barest minimum.
“We urge residents to support the police and other security agencies by providing timely and useful information that will assist in tackling criminal activities swiftly,” Afegbua stated.
The Cross River Police Command called on the public to remain vigilant and continue partnering with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in the state.
