President John Dramani Mahama has extended an invitation to the transitional leaders of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES); comprising Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger for the launch of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), scheduled to take place in Ghana.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the invitation during a press briefing, describing it as a reconciliatory gesture aimed at bridging divisions and restoring dialogue with the regional bloc.

Mr Ablakwa emphasised the importance of regional unity in the face of emerging threats, reiterating Ghana’s commitment to fostering peace through dialogue.

The official launch of ECOWAS@50, to be held at the Accra International Conference Centre, will mark a historic milestone for the regional body. The event, which will be hosted by President Mahama, is expected to feature the unveiling of a new anniversary logo and the announcement of the Jubilee year’s theme.

Established on 28 May 1975, ECOWAS has played a central role in promoting economic integration and political cooperation across West Africa.
