The sibling of Sam Altman has accused the OpenAI CEO of sexually abusing her for nearly ten years in a lawsuit filed in federal court.
Ann Altman, 30, claims that Sam Altman abused and manipulated her during their childhood in Missouri from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. As stated in the lawsuit submitted on Monday, the alleged abuse reportedly started when she was just 3 years old and continued until she was a minor, even after he had reached adulthood. Ann Altman had previously made assertions on social media regarding Sam Altman’s abuse.
In response, Sam Altman, 39, shared a statement on X on Tuesday on behalf of himself, his mother, and his brothers, denouncing the allegations as “utterly untrue.”
“This situation causes immense pain to our entire family,” the statement expressed.
Sam Altman, a seasoned entrepreneur and investor in Silicon Valley, gained significant recognition with the extraordinary success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, which ignited an AI revolution following its launch in late 2022.
Last year, Bloomberg News estimated Sam Altman’s wealth to be over $2 billion, encompassing a network of venture capital funds and startup investments. He has frequently stated that he does not hold equity in OpenAI.
According to Missouri state law, plaintiffs are permitted to file claims for childhood sexual abuse until the age of 31. Ann Altman is pursuing damages, alleging that she has suffered severe emotional distress and is facing increasing medical expenses related to her mental health treatment.
The case is titled Altman v. Altman, 4:25-cv-00017, in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri (St. Louis).
