Senegal Prohibits Security Oversight at Wrestling Events Following Fatal Arena Violence

Senegalese authorities have banned security coverage for wrestling matches nationwide following the tragic death of Babacar Diagne.

The victim was fatally attacked after the highly anticipated bout between Ama Baldé and Franc at the National Arena over the weekend.

The Minister of the Interior and Public Security announced the decision in response to violent incidents that erupted after the fight’s verdict.

According to a statement from the National Police, the post-match chaos led to vandalism, destruction of public and private property, and other violent attacks.

The situation worsened due to overcrowding, as the arena had reached full capacity, leaving many ticket-holding fans stranded outside.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture condemned the violence and urged the public, especially young people, to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Authorities criticized the National Wrestling Management Committee (CNG) and event organizers for failing to enforce key safety measures, including crowd control, adherence to schedules, and secure fan routes to prevent clashes between rival supporters.
