Somalia Tightens Security After U.S. Embassy Warns of Imminent Al-Shabaab Attack

Somali authorities have ramped up security in Mogadishu following a U.S. Embassy alert about a potential Al-Shabaab attack targeting key locations, including Aden Adde International Airport.

In a security advisory, the U.S. Embassy warned its citizens of possible attacks and urged vigilance, citing the risk of terrorism, kidnappings, and piracy.

The embassy also urged its citizens to exercise vigilance and avoid high-risk locations, citing the possibility of kidnapping, terrorist attacks and piracy.

Despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts by African Union forces and U.S. Africa Command, Al-Shabaab remains active, particularly in Hirshabelle and central Somalia.

The group recently briefly seized Balcad, a town 30 km from Mogadishu, before being pushed back.

The militant group continues to employ suicide bombings, mortar attacks, and armed assaults, often targeting government buildings, hotels, and popular public spaces.

Reports also suggest a possible connection between Al-Shabaab and Houthi rebels in Yemen, raising concerns over regional security.
