Teacher Esien Ita Itam Foundation Awards Scholarship to 552 Students in Cross River

In a commendable effort to support education, no fewer than 552 students across ten secondary schools in the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State have been awarded the prestigious Teacher Esien Ita Itam 2024 scholarship.

Announced by the foundation in a statement dated October 22, 2024, and signed by Ekpenyong Esien Ita (Jnr) on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the scholarship covers tuition fees, book allowances, WAEC fees, and boarding costs for the recipients.

The latest round of awards also commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Teacher Esien Ita Itam Education Trust Fund, which has been dedicated to empowering indigent students since its inception in 2014.

The Trust Fund, founded by the late Barr. (Mrs) Temitope Ekpenyong Ita in honour of her father-in-law, aims to provide educational opportunities to underserved students, underscoring the belief that “education is key to success.”

This year’s beneficiaries include students from a variety of schools in the district, including Hope Waddell Training Institute, Saint Patrick’s College (SPC), West African People’s Institute (WAPI), Mary Slessor Academy, Government Secondary School (GSS) Creek Town, GSS Adiabo, Edgerly Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Holy Child Secondary School, Duke Town Secondary School, and Government Technical College, Efut Ibonda.

Five students from each school, with six from Creek Town and Adiabo, received the scholarship, along with additional book allowances for select students from Creek Town and Efut Ibonda.

The foundation urged the recipients to fully embrace this opportunity, stating, “Education is the cornerstone of success, and every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their financial background.”

The Teacher Esien Ita Scholarship Foundation, in its decade-long mission, remains committed to inspiring and empowering future generations, ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder educational access for students in the Southern Senatorial District.
