Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has claimed that Southampton prevented Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu from securing a permanent move to Turkey, despite the club’s efforts to meet their demands.
Onuachu impressed during his loan spell at Trabzonspor last season, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances.
The Turkish side was eager to retain him permanently but faced constant roadblocks from Southampton.
Southampton’s Ever-Changing Demands
Speaking to the Turkish media, Dogan accused Southampton of shifting the goalposts during negotiations, making it impossible for Trabzonspor to finalize a deal.

“We had agreed with Onuachu. We’re still seeing each other. Southampton asked for €7 million, we gave them that.
Then they asked for €10 million, we went up to €9 million with bonuses, and suddenly they increased the asking price to €15 million,” Dogan revealed, as quoted by Sports Witness.
“They weren’t going to sell him to us. So we won’t force a deal. If it’s not on our terms, we won’t make this transfer.”
Time Running Out for a Deal
Onuachu has made 16 appearances for Southampton this season, scoring twice, including a goal in their 2-1 win against Ipswich Town.

Onuachu’s contract runs until June 2026, the English club may be reluctant to part ways with him as they battle relegation.
However, the Turkish transfer window remains open until February 11, giving Trabzonspor—and rivals Besiktas—a final chance to push for the Nigerian forward’s signature.
