UNICAL@ 50: Senate President to Serve as Lead Ambassador

Calabar, Nigeria – President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio would serve as the lead ambassador for the 50th anniversary of the University of Calabar, (UNICAL) which would be celebrated in March 2025.

This was disclosed in Calabar during the presentation of the UNICAL at 50 anniversary flag to the institution’s Pro-Chancellor, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd) by the anniversary committee.

Receiving the flag, Ekpoudom noted that UNICAL was a great institution and had produced great people in the society such as the president of the Senate in the 10th Assembly.

The Pro-Chancellor who accepted the flag while promising to lead a delegation to Akpabio said the President of the Senate and Pres. Bola Tinubu are great men that transformed their states as governors and would do the same in Nigeria in their present capacities.

“I am telling everyone who cares to listen that Nigerians must be hopeful because at the end of Pres. Tinubu and Akpabio’s tenure, we will have a changed and beautiful Nigeria,” he said

On her part, the Vice Chancellor of UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi who presented the flag to the Pro-Chancellor, on behalf of the founding fathers and alumni of the institution said, she was honoured to be the one celebrating the golden jubilee of the institution.

Obi added that many VCs and Pro-Chancellors had come and gone in the institution but did not get such opportunity to celebrate the great milestone achievement of the institution.

Similarly, reemphasising the theme of the anniversary celebration, UNICAL at 50: 50 years of impactful knowledge and service to humanity, Prof. Eyong Eyong, Chairman Planning Committee of the Anniversary celebration said the university has achieved a lot.

He stated that the celebration would also be a time to celebrate and honour all those who have contributed in no small way to the growth of the institution.
